Below we have outlined some examples of KS3 grade methods to show how they could be created with no points or custom points. Please bear in mind that these are just for demonstration and you can tailor grade methods to reflect your chosen analysis in school.
We also have a webinar available detailing the examples of different Grade Methods which can be created here, and this can be seen below:
+ / = / - Method
If you are working with KS3 and award internal grades worth no points, such as + / = / - grades, the following example illustrates how to do this.
- Step 1: Setup Grades Method
Select ‘No points’, choose to include sub grades or not, and then click ‘Next’. - Step 2: Define Whole Grades
Enter the whole grades and entries in descending order, as shown on the table above, and click ‘Next’.
You can then complete Steps 3 - 6 of the grade method setup for the sub grades if you have selected this option.
- Step 7: Confirmation
Check that your grades and entries have been entered correctly and click ‘Finish’.
Mastery Grades Method
If you are working with KS3 and award mastery grades worth bespoke points (defined by your school), the following example illustrates how to do this. Alternatively, you could set this up with no points.
- Step 1: Set Up Grades Method
Select ‘Custom points’, choose whether to include sub grades or not, and click ‘Next’. - Step 2: Define Whole Grades
Enter the whole grades, points, and entries as determined by your school, and then click ‘Next’. An example is shown on the table above.
You can then complete Steps 3 - 6 of the grade method setup for the sub grades if you have selected this option.
- Step 7: Confirmation
Check that your grades, points, and entries have been entered correctly and click ‘Finish’.
Percentages
If you collect percentages rather than grades, you can create a grade method in Analytics to cater for these (bearing in mind this may affect the level of analysis available in the reports). This will allow you to upload percentages for your qualifications and analyse them in the reports.
Please note this method is only recommended for KS3 cohorts, as KS4 cohorts should ideally use official grades with Attainment 8 points in order to produce Headline measures.
For more information, please see our article below, which also includes screenshots / examples of what analysis would be available in the reports - FAQ: Can I create a grade method that uses percentages rather than grades?
You can also find detailed step by step information on how to set up grade methods for use in KS3/4 in the following article - KS3/4: Creating Grade Methods.
