This article aims to explain how to export raw grades data as either a broadsheet or grades list, or for the DfE's L3 Value Added Ready Reckoner.
Note: Sisra Analytics can calculate L3 Value Added for you, for more information on setting this up, see our article here - KS5: National Data - Value Added Setup (Admin).
Grades and SPI / VA Broadsheet Exports
From the REPORTS homepage, you can export a broadsheet of your students’ raw grades, SPI / L3VA scores or points scores using the ‘Broadsheet Export’ button to the right of each KS3/4 or KS5 report:
Then selecting the desired export option:
- Student Grades Broadsheet (KS3/4 and KS5) – Includes all grades uploaded into that data set / assessment.
- SPI Broadsheet (KS3/4 Only) - All SPI scores for each student in each qualification where they have a grade uploaded.
- Value Added Broadsheet (KS5 Only) - All L3VA scores for each student in each qualification where they have a grade uploaded.
- Student Points Broadsheet (KS3/4 and KS5) - Includes points scores of all grades uploaded into that data set / assessment.
- Ready Reckoner (KS5 Only) - Allows you to export the SCHOOL grades from the selected data set or assessment into a format in Excel containing all the pertinent information for filling out the DfE’s Level 3 Value Added Ready Reckoner. See section below for further information.
Your export will look similar to the example below, containing your students listed down the left, qualifications across the top, and grades / SPI / VA / points scores scattered throughout:
Grades or AtL List Exports (Admins only)
To export a list of grades or AtL judgements into Excel, go to DATA > select key stage and cohort > GRADES > Uploads.
Then, select the data set you’re working with, e.g. Exams, Assessments, etc. and click ‘Export’.
To export AtL judgements from the data set as a list, you would need to click on the relevant tab underneath 'Attitude to Learning'.
This will export all files uploaded into that data set or assessment collection into Excel as a grades list format shown below, including any manual additions that have been made. Two additional columns will be created within the export: File Title and Results Date. You can use the ‘filter’ functionality within Excel to filter this file and display data from a specific file or date.
Broadsheet Exports for Admins
Admins can also find the same grade broadsheet exports by clicking DATA > select key stage and cohort > GRADES > Grades Management > Report Exports > select Dataset.
You can then export the same as above (depending on key stage) for any published reports for that cohort, (With the addition of a School Grades Broadsheet export for KS3/4, which only includes grades eligible to count towards school performance measures; e.g. discounted grades, unapproved qualifications are not included etc.).
This will export the published school or student grades into Excel in a broadsheet format, with the students shown down the left, qualification names shown across the top, and the grades/points/SPI/VA scores distributed across the middle. If there is a data set with a grades file that has not been published, you will be unable to export a broadsheet of these grades.
Grades Data: Ready Reckoner Export (Admins - KS5 only)
Admins can also export grades as a Ready Reckoner export into Excel, by going to DATA > Keystage 5 > select cohort > GRADES > Grades Management > Report Exports > select Dataset. Then, click ‘Export’ for the Ready Reckoner export.
This allows you to export the SCHOOL grades from any published data set or assessment into a format in Excel containing all the pertinent information for filling out the DfE’s Level 3 Value Added Ready Reckoner. This can be helpful in checking your figures are accurate.
If there is a data set with a grades file that has not been published, you will be unable to export the Ready Reckoner information for these grades.
It’s also worth noting that this will only include grades that are eligible to count towards Value Added. This means that it will not include any unapproved or discounted grades, or grades in qualifications that aren’t linked to a Value Added subject on the National Data page. For example, you can see in the below screenshot that ‘5004 – Aniston; Jennifer’, who had no Core Baselines data and as such is excluded from any Value Added calculations from the earlier example, does not appear here.
