What are Sisra Basic Projections?
Sisra Basic Projections (SBP) allow schools to see the grades that students might achieve at the end of KS4 and therefore their contribution towards school headline figures, based on their current attainment and expected grades. These can be produced within any report that is NOT linked with the ‘KS4 Exams’ term. SBPs are not intended to provide an accurate reflection of the final figures for the cohort, however they may be useful to identify potential areas for intervention as early as possible.
Setting up Sisra Basic Projections
Defining EAP Pathways
Sisra Basic Projections are calculated using the associated EAPs for each qualification and the expected grades entered within these. If you have not defined pathways within your EAPs (i.e. entered expected grades), this functionality will not be available.
For more information on entering expected grades into an EAP, see our article linked below:
SBP Management
When setting up SBP, you are able to specify how many entries each student will contribute towards the projected figures for each individual qualification. This is useful when projecting KS3 grades if students are taking a single subject in KS3, but this will be split into multiple qualifications in KS4 for a more accurate projection of headline figures at the end of KS4.
For example, if your school collects one English grade in KS3 but students will sit separate English Language and English Literature qualifications in KS4, you can set up KS3 English to contribute two entries towards the projected figures.
To do this, click DATA > select key stage and cohort > GRADES > SBP Management. By default, this will display all qualifications contributing one grade for each student in the cohort.
To edit the grade contributions for a qualification, click into the qualification name.
You can filter the list of students shown using the Search options at the top, such as by a student’s name or class.
For example, this could be useful if the top sets of Science are expected to take Biology, Chemistry, and Physics at KS4, and the other sets expected to take Combined Science. This would allow you to set the grade contributions for the top sets to ‘3’ and the remaining sets to ‘2’, to ensure students count appropriately towards projected headline measures, such as the EBacc.
Next, place a tick next to the relevant student(s) or click ‘Select Shown’ to select all students on the page, then click ‘Edit’.
Select the appropriate grade contribution in the dropdown, then click ‘Save’ .
Matching
We would recommend ensuring all qualifications are appropriately set up on the Matching page to contribute towards headline figures correctly. This means if you are projecting KS3 subjects in the reports, these subjects should be set up as you wish these to count towards the headlines. To do this, go to GRADES > Matching.
For example, these should be set as ‘GCSE (9-1)’, ‘Non-GCSE’, etc. in the KS4 MEASURE column as appropriate. Similarly, these should be nominated in the SPECIAL column to count towards appropriate subject specific measures.
For more information on the Matching process, see our article linked below:
Publishing the Reports
Once you have set up your EAPs, SBP Management, and grade contributions where necessary, you are ready to publish your reports. To do this, go to GRADES > Publish Grades, then click ‘Publish’ next to the appropriate data set or assessment collection. In the pop up window click the ‘Produce SISRA Basic Projections (SBP)’ toggle to enable this feature.
For more information on publishing the reports, see our article below:
SBP in the Reports
Once you have opened a report published with SBP, to view the projected grades, click Dataset tab > ‘Project’. This will recalculate the figures in the report using the appropriate projected figures as calculated from the expected grades.
