A student flight path is a graphical representation of individual students’ performance, across particular data sets, compared with their expected performance (across each term). This is generated by the Sisra Admin at your school.
The expectations for students will be taken from the expected grades that have been entered into your school’s EAPs (based on the student’s baseline / starting point). This is controlled by the Sisra Admin at your school. |
Viewing the Flight Paths
In the Reports, click on Student Detail > select Overview report > Students level. You will need to select a student from the Student drop down to view their report. Please note, you must have ‘View’ selected under the Dataset tab at the top of your report, then select a student in the Options tab.
To view the Flight Path you would need to scroll down to the bottom of the report. You can select a qualification using the drop down in the top left corner of the flight path chart. If you have generated both, plotted expectation and the line of best fit flight paths you can switch between these using the drop down in the top right corner.
When viewing a flight path, you have the choice to view this as a ‘Line of Best Fit’ or ‘Plotted Expectation’, both of which are explained further below.
Line of Best Fit
Line of Best Fit may be most useful to schools who use a combination of grade methods across KS3 and KS4. For example, On, Above, and Below in KS3 and then official GCSE 9-1 in KS4.
The line of best fit plots a line of expectation using just the student’s first and final expectation (set in the EAP for that qualification, controlled by your Sisra Admin).
For example, below you can see the flight path for Jennifer in Art, set to Line of Best Fit. Two lines are plotted, a dotted line is produced from the first expectation (- for Y7 Term 1), at a steady incline to reach her final expectation (a grade 9 in KS4 Exams).
A second solid line is then plotted using the student’s performance across each term, based on the grades uploaded into the data sets / assessments chosen by your Sisra Admin. Comparing the actual performance (solid line) with the expected performance (dotted line), you can see at which points the student is Below, On, and Above track.
Plotted Expectation
This chart may be most useful to schools who use the same grade method through KS3 - KS4.
This chart plots a line of expectation using ALL the individual expected grades from each term, that have been entered into the EAP for that qualification (set by your Sisra Admin). As such, the line will generally be more varied to reflect the specific expected grades at each term.
For example, below you can see the flight path for Damon in Art, set to Plotted Expectation. Two lines are shown, a dotted line is plotted and varies based on his expected grades each term, as you can see, his performance is expected to dip slightly between Y9 Term 3 and Y10.
A second solid line is then plotted using the student’s performance across each term, based on the grades uploaded into the data sets / assessments chosen by your Sisra Admin. Comparing the actual performance (solid line) with the expected performance (dotted line), you can see at which points the student is Above, On, and Below track when the solid line is meeting or above/below the dotted line.
Please note: Flight paths are plotted against the number of master grades included in your grade method, rather than the points that are awarded for each grade within the method. Therefore, if a student has achieved a grade worth the same points across two flight path points, these could show as above/below each other based on their ‘ranking’ in the method. This is so that the flight paths show an incline towards the KS4 Ending Point. |
