This article aims to explain which figures are included in the Attitude to Learning (AtL) Area in the KS3/4 reports and how these are calculated. The AtL Area allows you to view overall or individual student judgements - associated with one of up to three categories - in each qualification taken by the cohort.
Q: Why are there no average points, average judgement or total points figures included in my reports? A: This will be the case when a selected category has been set up by an Admin as ‘hidden’, omitting any aggregated figures from the reports. |
Overview Report
The AtL Overview report displays a breakdown of each judgement (for the selected category) that has been imported for students with a corresponding grade in their qualifications. This is available at the Filters, Faculties, Qualifications, Classes, and Students levels.
When viewing the AtL area – Overview report – Classes level, you will be required to select a Qualification from the Options tab, and the Grade Type dropdown will be locked. |
-
Judgements: Sum of all imported judgements for the selected category, where students also have a corresponding grade in the relevant qualification.
The summary row displays the total number of each judgement for the selected AtL category.
-
Unknown Judgement: Sum of all imported judgements that aren’t defined in the setup of the category selected, and are therefore not recognised (invalid judgements).
The summary row displays the total number of unknown (invalid) judgements for the selected AtL category.
-
Judgement Count: Total number of judgements imported for the category selected (including unknown judgements), where students also have a corresponding grade uploaded.
The summary row displays the total number of judgements imported for the selected AtL category.
-
No Judgement: Sum of all grades uploaded with no corresponding judgement for the category selected.
The summary row displays the total number of grades uploaded for students that don’t have a corresponding judgement for the selected AtL category.
-
Average Points: Displayed for selected categories with aggregated figures set to be displayed as ‘Average Points’. Sum of the points defined for all imported, valid judgements divided by the total number of valid judgements (with a corresponding grade), rather than being divided by the judgement count.
The summary row displays the average points for all judgements, rounded to 2 decimal places. This is calculated by finding the sum of points for all valid judgements divided by the total number of valid AtL Judgements.
-
Average Judgement: Displayed for selected categories with aggregated figures set to be displayed as ‘Average Judgement’. Sum of the points defined for all imported, valid judgements divided by the total number of valid judgements (with a corresponding grade). This figure is then rounded to the nearest points value associated with a judgement, with that judgement given as the average.
The summary row displays the average judgement, which is calculated from rounding the average points for all judgements (see above), to the nearest points score.
-
Total Points: Displayed for selected categories with aggregated figures set to be displayed as ‘Total Points’. Sum of points defined for all imported, valid judgements (with a corresponding grade).
The summary row displays the sum of points for all valid judgements.
-
Residual (Faculties, Qualifications, and Classes levels): Available for selected categories with aggregated figures set to be displayed as either ‘Average Points’ or ‘Average Judgements’. Represents the judgements in the selected category for students in a specific faculty, qualification, or class in comparison to the judgements in that category for those same students across all of their qualifications.
Student AtL Residuals are calculated by the judgement point score in the selected category minus the average judgement point score. For more information on these calculations, see our article - How are KS4 'Residuals' calculated?
The summary row displays the average of each faculty’s, qualification’s, or class’ residuals.
