This article aims to explain how to prepare and import core baselines for Level 3 Value Added and L2 Progress in KS5. For information on where to find these baselines, see our article here.
“No valid values for required KS4 APS Baseline’ If you’ve received the above health check when publishing with Headlines in the GRADES area, then completing the steps in this guide should help resolve this. |
1 / Preparing Core Baselines
Once you have compiled the appropriate KS4 core baselines, you must ensure these are prepared into a 4 column list in Excel, including Student ID, Student Name, Baseline and Points, as shown in the 'import format example' below, and saved as a CSV (MS DOS) file.
We’d recommend using the same ‘Baseline’ names as shown in the screenshot below as this can help speed up the importing process. And, you can import your baselines across multiple files if required.
If you're using the Analytics Excel Add-In to help format your file, we have a dedicated article here - Extracting and Preparing Grades or AtL Data (Admin).
2 / Importing Core Baselines
Once you have prepared the appropriate baselines, they can then be imported into Analytics by going to DATA (A1) > select KS5 and cohort (A2) > KS4 / EAP (A3) > Core Baselines (A4) > Import Core Baselines (A5).
Next, click ‘Choose File’ (A6) to select your file and click 'Start Import’ (A7).
“The file does not contain enough columns. Please ensure your file has 4 columns and looks like the example.” If you have received this error, this suggests your file is not in the correct format. Please ensure your file includes 4 columns as shown above, and is saved as CSV (MS DOS) (not Macintosh). You will then be shown a file health check, which will display any issues found with the file you are importing. |
If there are any issues found here, you won’t be able to continue with the import so you will have to click ‘Cancel the import’ (A8) and resolve these in your file before re-importing. When you’re ready, click ‘Continue with the import’ (A9). For more information on these potential issues, see our article here.
Core Baselines Pairing
On the next screen you will need to tell Analytics which baseline name in your file relates to the specific SISRA Baseline. For example, in the screenshot below there is a baseline name of ‘9-1 Points - GCSE Only APS’ (B1) from our file which would be paired with the ‘KS4 APS GCSE’ SISRA Baseline (B2).
If you have any baselines in your file that you do not want to be imported then you can use the ‘Do Not Include’ option. Once each baseline is paired, you can then click ‘Continue with the Import’ to be taken to the import summary and you can then click ‘Complete the Import’ (B3) for Analytics to populate the Core Baseline page with the baselines from your file.
After importing your core baselines, you will be taken to the Core Baselines page to review what you have imported.
We recommend checking this page for issues which may be flagged with a warning icon which should be resolved before publishing. If any students have a Maths baseline from a Level 3 qualification, this can also be set here too, both of which are explained in our article here:
