The ability to filter your reports by key groups of students (e.g. Gender, SEN, EAL, etc.) can be useful in helping identify gaps in performance. This article will explain the different ways by which you can filter your KS5 reports.
Filters Menu
The Filters menu is available by clicking the 'Add Filter' button and allows you to filter the report by a number of different options, shown within the tabs on the left hand side.
You can then click into the 'Student Filters' tab to be given a list of the student data filters that have been set up by your Sisra Administrator. Once you have selected the filter values you want, click on 'Apply'.
When multiple values are selected within the same filter, Analytics will perform an OR search (e.g. 90-95% OR Above 95% attendance). When multiple values are selected within different filters, Analytics will perform an AND search (e.g. Female AND EAL).
The report and your figures will then be recalculated to only include students meeting the selected criteria, and the key characteristics will also be updated to reflect these students.
Filters will continue to be applied as you navigate the reports and they will be displayed at the top of your report for information purposes, where you can click into these to change your selection. To remove filters, click on the 'X' button or 'Reset All'.
'Breakdown Data By' Dropdown
The ‘Breakdown Data By’ dropdown allows you view an overview of a specific filter group or student status to identify ‘gaps’. Using this, you can compare the figures for individual filter values within a selected filter, or compare these to the overall total for a cohort.
For example, selecting ‘EAL’ will provide a breakdown for students who speak English as an additional language and native English speakers, as well as the overall cohort.
This dropdown is available in all report areas, except for when the report data is grouped by 'Groups', as then the data is already separated into the different filters.
The selections available are based on the student data filters your Sisra Administrator has imported, as well as each student’s status. Filters including 15 or less individual values will be available to select here.
GAP Analysis
When a filter that contains only two filter values is selected in the ‘Breakdown Data By’ dropdown, GAP analysis will become available. This will create an additional GAP row to highlight the difference in performance between the two values.
Did you know that you can also combine the Breakdown and Student Filters functionality (explained above), to filter your reports down further? For example, you could select ‘Disadvantaged’ in the Breakdown dropdown and ‘Female’ in the Filters menu. This allows you to compare performance for students who are Disadvantaged females with non-Disadvantaged females, as well as view GAP analysis between the two! |
Can I break down figures by ALL filters/filter values in one go?
Yes! Did you know you’re able to group selected report views by filters? To do this, click ‘Groups’ on the ‘Group Report Data By’ bar for your selected report view. Any filters with 15 or less values will then be used to break down your figures, for an overall comparison at a click of a button!
