This article aims to explain which figures are included in the Headlines report and how these are calculated. The Headlines report is designed to provide an overview of your schools headline performance measures for that specific cohort.
Headlines Report
To access the Headlines report, click REPORTS > KS5 > select a cohort. Then, select the DATA SET in the dropdown and click ‘Headlines’.
Once in the reports, you can switch to a different report, view, or group at the top of the page, or use the DATA SET dropdown to switch to a different data set or assessment.
Cohort Summary
- Cohort: Total number of students in the cohort who are eligible for the performance tables. The rules for student inclusion vary per year and can depend on the student's status and grades. For more information on how each student status counts, please see the following article - KS5 - Student Statuses (Admin).
L3 Overall
L3 Overall is not an official performance cohort reported on by the DfE but provides an overall summary of the Academic (GCE AS/A Level and Academic qualifications), Applied General, and Tech Level performance cohorts for internal analysis. |

Students included in L3 Overall Cohort: Students who are included in the ‘Cohort’ figure and have a grade uploaded for at least one approved L3 qualification.

L3 Overall Average Points per Entry: The sum of points for L3 grades divided by the number of entries for students included in the L3 performance cohort.

L3 Overall Average Grade: The average points figure represented in grade format, using the boundaries provided by the DfE which are referenced in this article - KS5 - Average Grade Boundaries used in Reports.

L3 Overall Total Entries: The sum of entries for L3 eligible grades.

L3 Overall Average Points per Pupil: The total points for L3 eligible grades divided by the number of students included in the L3 Overall Cohort.

Students included in L3 Overall VA: Students are included if they have the relevant KS4 Prior Attainment imported and a valid grade in a VA eligible qualification.
The percentage is calculated by taking the count of students included in L3 Overall VA, divided by the students included in the L3 Overall Cohort. -
L3 Overall VA: Weighted average of Value Added scores for all VA-eligible grades uploaded into the specific report for each qualification.
Each VA score contributes to the average figure based on the size of the grade (in relation to an A Level), meaning larger qualifications will contribute more than smaller qualifications. -
L3 Overall VA Upper and Lower Confidence Limits: Confidence limits take into account the uncertainty associated with VA figures, such as influences on student performance that are outside of a school’s control. These produce a range within which the school’s underlying performance can be confidently said to lie.
The Upper limit is calculated by finding the sum of the overall VA score and the confidence interval.
The Lower limit is calculated by finding the overall VA score and subtracting the confidence interval.

A Level

Students included in A Level Cohort: Students who are included in the ‘Cohort’ figure and have a grade uploaded for at least one approved AS or A Level qualification.

A Level Average Points per Entry: The sum of points for A Level grades divided by the number of entries for students included in the A Level performance cohort.

A Level Average Grade: The average points figure represented in grade format, using the boundaries provided by the DfE which are referenced in this article - KS5 - Average Grade Boundaries used in Reports.

A Level Total Entries: The sum of entries for A Level eligible grades.

A Level Average Points per Pupil: The total points for A Level eligible grades divided by the number of students included in the A Level Cohort.

Students included in A Level VA: Students are included if they have the relevant KS4 Prior Attainment imported and a valid grade in a VA eligible AS/A Level qualification.
The percentage is calculated by taking the count of students included in A Level VA divided by the students included in the A Level Cohort. -

Best 3 A Levels

Students included in Best 3 A Levels: Students who have at least one full A Level entry would be included in the Best 3 A Levels measure. If any students are entered for less than 3 full A Levels, they are only included in this measure if they do NOT have an entry for an Academic, Applied General, or Tech Level qualification greater than or equal to the size of one full A Level.
Please note this can include double award A Levels and applied A Levels, but does not include AS Levels, General Studies, or Critical Thinking qualifications.
- Best 3 A Levels Average Total Points: The total points value for all eligible students across all three of their Best 3 A Level slots, divided by the number of students included in the Best 3 A Levels measure.
- Best 3 A Levels Average Points: The sum of the points for all eligible students’ best 3 A Levels divided by 3 (regardless of how many A Level entries each student has).

Best 3 A Levels Average Grade: The ‘Best 3 A Levels Average Points’ value expressed as an equivalent grade using the grade boundaries provided by the DfE, which are referenced in this article - KS5 - Average Grade Boundaries used in Reports.
AAB

Students Included in AAB: Includes A Level students who are entered for a minimum of 3 full A Levels (e.g. excludes Critical Thinking, General Studies, AS Levels, and Applied A levels).
If a student is entered for less than three full size A levels, they are only included in the measure if they are not entered for other academic, applied general, and tech level qualifications greater than or equal to the size of an A level. - Students Achieving AAB Including 2 Facilitating: Count or percentage of students that have achieved grades of at least AAB in at least 2 facilitating subjects. (The facilitating subjects are: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Geography, History, English Literature, and Classical/Modern Languages).

Students Achieving AAB Including 3 Facilitating: Count or percentage of students that have achieved grades of at least AAB in at least 3 facilitating subjects.
Academic

- Tech Level Average Grade: The average points figure represented in grade format, using the boundaries provided by the DfE which are referenced in this article - KS5 - Average Grade Boundaries used in Reports.
- Tech Level Total Entries: The sum of entries for Tech Level eligible grades.

Tech Level Points per Pupil: The sum of points for Tech Level eligible grades divided by the number of students included in the Tech Level performance cohort.
Tech Cert
Tech Cert qualifications are any approved Level 2 Technical Certificates being taken by students at your school.

Students Included in Tech Cert Cohort: Students who are included in the ‘Cohort’ figure and have a grade uploaded for at least one approved L2 Tech Cert qualification.

Tech Cert Average Points per Entry: The sum of points for Tech Cert grades divided by the number of entries for students included in the Tech Cert performance cohort.

Tech Cert Average Grade: Average Points per Entry figure represented in grade format using the boundaries dictated by the DfE, which are referenced in this article - KS5 - Average Grade Boundaries used in Reports.

Tech Cert Total Entries: The sum of entries for Tech Cert eligible grades.

Tech Level Points per Pupil: The sum of points for Tech Cert eligible grades divided by the number of students included in the Tech Cert performance cohort.
English Progress

Students Included in English Progress: Students are included in English Progress if they have an English baseline from KS4 imported, which is worth less than 4 challenge points (for 19/20 onwards) or less than 5 challenge points (for 18/19 and earlier cohorts).
The percentage is calculated by taking the count of students included in the performance category divided by the overall cohort. -
Average English Progress: Sum of the students English Progress scores divided by the number of students included.
Negative scores capped at -1 in line with DfE guidance. -
Students achieving a Positive English Progress Score: Number of students who have achieved an English Progress score of greater than 0.
The percentage is calculated by taking the count of students who have achieved a positive progress score divided by the number of students included in the measure. -
Students included in English Progress entering an Approved Qualification: Number of students included in English Progress who also have a grade uploaded for an approved English resit qualification in KS5.
The percentage is calculated by taking the count of students entered for an approved qualification, divided by the number of students included in the measure.
Maths Progress

Students Included in Maths Progress: Students are included in Maths Progress if they have a Maths baseline from KS4 imported, which is worth less than 4 challenge points (less than 5 challenge points for 18/19 and earlier cohorts).
The percentage is calculated by taking the count of students included in the performance category divided by the overall cohort. -
Average Maths Progress: Sum of the students Maths Progress scores divided by the number of students included.
Negative scores capped at -1 in line with DfE guidance. -
Students achieving a Positive Maths Progress Score: Number of students who have achieved a Maths Progress score of greater than 0.

Students included in Maths Progress entering an Approved Qualification: Number of students included in Maths Progress who also have a grade uploaded for an approved Maths resit qualification in KS5.
The percentage is calculated by taking the count of students entered for an approved qualification divided by the number of students included in the measure. -
Students included in L3 Maths Measure: Students who are included in the ‘Cohort’ figure and have either a maths baseline from KS4 imported which is worth more than 4 challenge points (more than 5 challenge points for 18/19 and earlier cohorts), or was achieved in a L3 Maths qualification. Students who achieve their Maths baseline in a L3 qualification (if set correctly by your Sisra Admin) will be excluded from the below measure, unless the student achieves another L3 Maths qualification at KS5.
The percentage is calculated by taking the count of students included in the performance category, divided by the overall cohort. -
Students included in L3 Maths measure achieving an Approved Qualification: Students who are included in the L3 Maths Measure above and have achieved a passing grade for a Level 3 Maths qualification in KS5.
The percentage is calculated by taking the count of students entered for an approved qualification, divided by the number of students included in the measure.
