This article aims to explain which figures are included in the reports for Value Added and how these are calculated. The VA analysis allows you to view VA scores for groups, faculties, qualifications, classes, and students.
The Value Added report will only include VA eligible grades which count towards the Level 3 A Level, Academic, or Applied General performance cohorts. |
Value Added Report
To access the VA reports, click REPORTS > KS5 > select a cohort. Then, select the desired DATA SET in the dropdown and click ‘Value Added’.
Once in the reports, you can switch to a different report, view, or group at the top of the page, or use the DATA SET dropdown to switch to a different data set or assessment.
If the Value Added report tab is not showing within the selected Data Set, we would recommend getting in touch with your Sisra Administrator at school to check the setup is complete for Value Added to be calculated. The article linked here contains further information on this. |
Column Headings
There are a number of options on specific column headers in the KS5 reports, allowing you to view more information on a specific figure. For example, click the chart icon to view the figures within selected columns in chart format. Click the 'i' icon to view information on how the figures in that column are calculated. Click the blue or red triangle icons for key information.
Calculations
Positive VA scores will be highlighted green, and negative VA scores red.
-
Total Grades: Count of all VA-eligible grades uploaded into this data set, for each group.
The summary row shows the count of all grades uploaded into this data set for the cohort.
-
Total Entries: Sum of all VA-eligible entries for the grades uploaded into this data set for each group.
The summary row shows the sum of all entries for the grades uploaded into this data set for the cohort that count towards VA.
-
KS4 Prior: Average KS4 Prior Attainment for each group used to determine VA Expectations for VA-eligible grades. For A Level and Academic qualifications, the KS4 Prior Attainment will only include GCSEs/GCEs; for Applied General qualifications, it will include all qualification types.
The summary row shows the average KS4 prior for all grades that are included in VA.
-
APS per Entry: Average points per entry for each group, calculated using the total points divided by the total entries, for all VA-eligible grades uploaded into this data set.
The summary row shows the overall average points for the cohort, calculated by the sum of all grade points of the grades uploaded into this data set for each qualification (that count for VA) divided by the number of entries.
-
Avg VA Expectation: Average per entry of VA Expectations for VA-eligible grades uploaded into this data set for each group. Individual expectations are calculated from VA National Data based on each student's KS4 Prior Attainment.
The summary row shows the average VA expectation for all grades that are included in VA, calculated by the sum of all VA expectations divided by the total entries.
-
VA: Average Value Added Points score for each group, calculated by the total of the weighted VA Points scores in this group divided by the total weighted qualification sizes in said group. This is currently available for L3 qualifications.
This can be filtered to show your schools VA scores for specific performance cohorts (A Level Overall, Academic, and Applied General) using ‘Add Filters’ and selecting the ‘Qualification Type’.
The summary row shows the overall average value added score for the cohort (which is not officially reported on), calculated by the sum of all weighted VA scores of the grades uploaded into this data set for each qualification (that count towards VA) divided by the total size of the qualification/s.
- VA Lower Confidence Limit: The lower limit within which each qualification's underlying performance can be confidently said to lie, by taking the average VA score minus the confidence interval.
-
VA Upper Confidence Limit: The upper limit within which each qualification's underlying performance can be confidently said to lie, by taking the average VA score plus the confidence interval.
Confidence Intervals when grouped by Faculty or Group are based on the average VA score for all qualifications/filter values within that Group or Faculty.
