Once you have uploaded at least one grades file into Analytics, Analytics will perform checks on the grades uploaded and Attitude to Learning (AtL) judgements imported to find any potential setup issues that could affect the integrity of the reports.
This guide aims to explain how to identify and address the 'Subgrade Not Valid In This Data Set' warning icon which can arise when sub grades are uploaded into the Exams data set.
The process for resolving this is the same in both KS3/4 and KS5, however below we have used KS5 in the screenshots as examples.
Sub Grades Not Valid In This Data Set
The Sub Grades not Valid in this Data Set icon indicates that at least one student has a sub grade uploaded into the Exams data set.
You will not be able to publish the reports with this icon, so we would recommend resolving this to ensure accuracy, as sub grades are not officially awarded by the DfE.
To investigate the student's affected, click on the blue underlined figures in the Grade Count column.
To resolve this issue, you would need to remove the sub grade from each affected grade. For example, if a student has a A+ highlighted, you can remove the + to resolve the issue. There are two ways to resolve this depending on whether you have a large or small number of grades affected, explained below:
Small Number of Grades affected
To resolve this icon for a handful of grades, you could manually edit and remove the sub grades within Analytics. To do this, click GRADES > Grades Management > Select a Exams in the drop down. Next, click on the Grade Count for the affected qualification and click 'Edit Grades' on the top-right hand side.
Next, remove the sub grade from the affected grades in the text boxes, and click Save.
Large number of grades affected
If all grades are affected, you may prefer to edit your original file in Excel to remove the subgrades, save as a CSV (MS DOS) file and re-upload your grades file in GRADES > Uploads > Exams, then afterwards delete your previous file by pressing the red cross..
Once the warning icon(s) have been resolved, you should be able to publish the Exams data set in GRADES > Publish Grades > Publish.
