Below we have provided troubleshooting tips if you are presented with warning banners or publishing issues related to the National Data / Value Added page in KS5.
Warning Banners
Below we have covered a number of warning banners that could be presented when accessing the National Data > Value Added page in KS5, as well as information on what triggers these messages and how to resolve them (if needed):
- “One or more qualifications have not been matched in the QN/Qual Title column on the Matching page”
This banner will appear if on your Matching page (GRADES > Matching), you have one or more included qualifications that have not been matched to the official DfE qualifications via the ‘QN/Qual Title’ column. To resolve this, you would need to enter the QN codes for all approved qualifications at KS5.
Further information on this can be found in our KS5 - Completing the Matching Page article.
- “One or more qualifications do not have an EAP selected on the Matching page”
This indicates that on your Matching page (GRADES > Matching), you have one or more qualifications without a selection made in the ‘EAP’ column. As the EAP determines the grade method and size of the qualification, this would be required in order to set up these qualifications for value added. To resolve this, you would need to assign a suitable EAP for each of these qualifications.
Further information on this can be found in our KS5 - Completing the Matching Page article.
- “One or more qualifications have a mismatch on your Matching page, between the QN/Qual Title and the grade method in the selected EAP”
When a qualification has a mismatch between the QN/Qual Title and the grade method selected within the EAP, you will be unable to make any changes on the Value Added National Data page because it will not count correctly in the reports. To resolve this, you will need to go to the Matching page (GRADES > Matching) and ensure you have entered the correct QN code for the affected qualification, as well as selected the corrected EAP.

- “There is official Value Added national data available for this cohort…”
This will indicate that the Value Added Data selected for this cohort is not official but there is one available for this cohort. For example, if you are working with 18/19 Leavers cohort but have selected Value Added data from 2018 to be used, as there is 2019 data available which is correct for this cohort, you should select this instead. To do this click the ‘Edit VA Data’ button and select the correct data for that cohort in the drop down.
- “There are currently qualifications which are eligible to count towards Value Added”
This indicates that on your Matching page there are qualifications setup which are eligible to be included in Value Added, however there is no data available in the ‘VA Data’ selected for that cohort. This is for information purposes, and these qualifications will be displayed as blank rows here and will not be included in Value Added once the reports are published until official data is available.
You do have the option to select a different qualification’s national data to use on this page for the time being, until the correct national data is available for the year you’re working with. However, if you do so, any Value Added figures in the reports must be treated with caution as they will not be in line with the DfE.
- “You do not have any qualifications that are eligible to count towards Value Added set up on your Matching page”
This indicates that in your Matching page (GRADES > Matching), you do not have any qualifications setup that are eligible to be included in the Value Added measure. We would recommend double checking your Matching page to ensure all qualifications have been linked to using the correct QN codes in the ‘QN/Qual Title Column’.
Further information on this can be found in our KS5 - Completing the Matching Page article.
Publishing Health Check Issues
Below we have outlined the issues which could be encountered when publishing your reports to include headlines. These can be found if there are any issues with your setup when you go to GRADES > Publish Grades, click ‘Publish’ next to the dataset/assessment you wish to publish and enable the ‘Headlines’ toggle in the pop-out window.
These checks can be information (i) or failures (F). If there are any issues flagged, you can click ‘Show’ in the Guidance column for more information on this.
- Official VA national data not in use (i)
This does not prevent publishing of the reports, but highlights that the data selected on the Value Added National Data page is incorrect. For example, if working with the 18/19 leaver’s cohort, the correct data is ‘2019 Amended’. If the data from another year is in use here, this will be highlighted. We would recommend resolving this by editing the VA data to the correct data for that cohort.
- Size mismatch between qualification and assigned VA national data (i)
This will appear if there are any qualifications that have been assigned manually in your Value Added National Data page where the size of the qualification selected differs from that of the qualification in your Matching page. This will not prevent you from publishing, however we would recommend resolving this by double checking that you have selected the correct size national data for your qualification and that the qualification has been set up correctly on the Matching page.
- No qualifications that can produce VA (F)
This will prevent you from publishing with Headlines as it means you do not have any qualifications setup for the Value Added measure. We would recommend checking each qualification has been setup in your Matching page with the correct QN data, and checking the Value Added National Data page to see if the qualifications all have the appropriate data linked to them. If no qualifications are eligible, you can click the Headlines toggle to ‘Do NOT produce DfE-based headline figures’ to continue publishing.
- No valid values for required KS4 APS baseline (F)
This means the KS4 core baseline subjects (GCSE APS and Overall APS) have not been imported for the cohort. Because these are required in order for Value Added to be calculated, this will prevent you from publishing with VA figures.
To resolve this, you would need to import the KS4 Core Baselines for each student in KS4/EAP > Core Baselines > Import Core Baselines. GCE and Academic (e.g. EPQ) qualifications require the average points from KS4 for only GCSE qualifications. Applied General qualifications require the average points from KS4 for all qualifications.
For further information on this, please see our article - KS5 - Where to find Core Baselines (Admin)
- No VA national data selected (F)
Analytics will flag this check if you have qualifications eligible to be included in Value Added calculations, but have not selected VA Data in the GRADES > National Data > Value Added page.
