Publishing Grades in KS5 - Health Check Failed
Analytics will perform a health check on the data set or assessment collection when publishing their grades.
If you're presented with 'Health Check Failed', you will be shown the issues identified, which we recommend resolving before publishing.
The ‘Data Check’ column details the issues that have been flagged, whilst the ‘Area’ column allows you to quickly navigate to the area affected, to see where the issues are allowing you to resolve them. Below we have provided a summary of the issues that can be flagged and what these mean.
-
Grade Not In Method (F)
This means that there is at least one grade uploaded for a qualification which is not present within the grade method set in the EAP selected in the Matching page for that qualification (GRADES > Matching). You can click into the link to Grade Management where you can see the EAP and grade method selected for each qualification, and you can drill down into the grade count to see which grade has not been recognised.
-
Grade with Missing Student Data (F)
This means there is at least one student with a grade in this dataset who does not have any student data imported for them. Analytics uses the student ID (not the student name) to link the appropriate students with the correct grades and so it is important that these are kept consistent throughout all student data and grades files uploaded for the cohort. This can be resolved by ensuring all students with grades have the appropriate student data imported for them.
-
Sub Grades Not Valid In This Dataset (F) *Exams data set only
If you have any sub grades uploaded into your ‘Exams’ data set (for example, A+) this will prevent you from publishing as these grades are not officially valid for exams. We would recommend double checking the grades uploaded and either amending them manually in Grades Management or reuploading your grades file without the sub grades included.
For information on resolving warning icons present in Grades Management, see our articles here - Grades Management.
Publish Grades – Headlines Health Check
These checks can be for information purposes (i), warnings (W), or failures (F), briefly listed below. We recommend resolving any information or warnings to ensure accuracy, although reports may still be published. Health check failures will prevent publishing and must be resolved. For help resolving these warnings, click ‘Show’ in the Guidance column and click on the guide listed.
-
Invalid Core Baseline (W)
Analytics will check all your core baselines for any invalid values. For KS4 APS GCSE and KS4 APS All, Analytics expects average A8 points to be imported, whilst for Prior English and Maths, the relevant years’ challenge points are expected. If publishing the ‘Exams’ data set, this warning will become a fail (F) and stop you from publishing.
-
Size mismatch between qualification and assigned VA national data (i)
This will appear if there are any qualifications that have been assigned manually in your Value Added National Data page where the size of the qualification selected differs from that of the qualification in your Matching page.
-
Official VA National Data not in use (i)
This does not prevent publishing of the reports, but highlights that the data selected on the Value Added page is not the official data for this cohort, but official data is available. For example, if working with the 18/19 KS5 leaver’s cohort, the correct data is ‘2019 Amended’. If the data from another year is in use, this will be highlighted in the publish grades health check to make you aware, as figures will not be calculated in line with the DfE.
-
No valid values for required KS4 APS baseline (i)
This means that specific KS4 core baselines (KS4 APS GCSE or KS4 APS All) have not been imported for the cohort. Because these are required in order for Value Added to be calculated, these figures will not pull through in the report once published.
-
No VA national data selected (i)
Analytics will flag this check if you have qualifications eligible to be included in Value Added calculations, but have not selected VA Data in the GRADES > National Data > Value Added page.
