This article will explain how to rename the data sets and assessments area in KS3/4 and KS5 in order to accurately reflect the type of grades you have or plan to upload.
What is a Data Set?
A standalone data set is used to store one full set of grades achieved by students in each qualification that they take. Each data set will become a separate report in the REPORTS area to allow you to analyse school, qualification, class, and student performance based on the grades uploaded.
Data sets available by default are:
- Exams (for official, banked exam grades only)
- Targets
- Mocks
- Data Set 3
- Data Set 4
- Data Set 5
- TAGs / CAGs (Teacher Assessed Grades / Centre Assessed Grades)
All of these can be renamed, except for 'Exams' and 'TAGs / CAGs', depending on the data you wish to collect and analyse. For example, if you wanted to upload predicted grades into 'Data Set 3' you could rename this to 'Predicted Grades' to make it clearer to all Analytics users. Please note that any changes you make to the names of Data Sets will take place in all cohorts for that key stage. You can have different names for KS3/4 and KS5.
You are not able to create additional data sets, so we recommend speaking with your SLT to determine what data you will want to upload into each of these.
What are Assessments?
In Assessments, you can upload your chosen type of assessment grades data which you would like to track over time, for example, current working at grades. They are managed using 'Assessment Collections', which reflect each data point throughout the year (i.e. 'Year 11 Autumn', 'Year 11 Spring', etc.).
A new assessment collection would need to be created each time you collect assessment grades in school. You can create as many assessment collections as you like, and publish up to two per term throughout the cohort. This provides a total of up to 30 assessments per cohort for KS3/4 and up to 12 in KS5.
We usually recommend uploading one type of assessment data per cohort, so you could rename the Assessment section to reflect the type of data you collect, such as 'Working At'.
Renaming Data Sets
To rename a Data Set or the Assessments area for a particular key stage, go to CONFIG. > Data Sets > then select the key stage that you want to change, and then click 'Edit' on the right-hand side.
Then you can simply type the new name into the box for the corresponding Data Set or for the Assessments area. For example, you might want to change 'Targets' to 'EOY Targets'. Note that the 'Exams' and 'TAGs / CAGs' data sets are locked and cannot be renamed.
Once you have finished renaming, click on 'Save' at the bottom of the page. These new names will then be applied to all cohorts within the selected key stage. You would need to republish the GRADES area (GRADES > Publish Grades) to update any published reports for a cohort.
You can also rename individual Assessment Collections. They can be given unique names for each cohort. For information on how to do this, see our article here - FAQ - Can I rename an assessment collection? (Admin)
