The Transition Matrix will be available for reports showing "DC Included" and will compare the performance of students at the end of KS2 with their end of KS4 performance, as a percentage. These figures can be compared to the Sisra collaboration data, to see how well the students performed against the students included within the collaboration.
| Please note: Due to a lack of DfE guidance around cohorts awarded Scaled Scores at KS2, Transition Matrices are currently only available for 2020 and previous Data Collaboration events (which are based on NC Levels). |
To access this, in the reports, click Grades area - Transition Matrix report - Students level. Then, in the Options tab, select a qualification from the Qualification dropdown.
Once you have selected a qualification from the drop down, the matrix will appear:
SPI (a Sisra-exclusive subject progress measure) will also be calculated and displayed. This is calculated from the average KS4 attainment for similar subjects in the collaboration data with the same KS2 prior attainment. You can into the underlined figures within the Transition Matrix to see a list of any students who are counting towards the figure:
Filters Tab
You are able to filter your figures in the Transition Matrix by clicking Filters tab > Add Filters at the top of the report. Just bear in mind that this would only filter your own school’s figures, and would not have any effect on the collaboration data.
Qualification Grouping

The Transition Matrix will compare to GCSE qualifications only, similar to the DfE Transition Matrices. For example, BTEC Dance is grouped under Performing Arts and so within the Transition Matrix this will be compared with the GCSE Performing Arts qualifications.
| Although the qualification grouping for the Data Collaboration grades shown in the Transition Matrix is different to the qualification grouping used in SPI calculations, the SPIs shown on this report still use the same qualification groupings for the averages in their calculations. Regardless of the report view you’re viewing, SPI will always be calculated the same. |
Hiding / Displaying Collaboration Data
By default, the option to hide collaboration data will be selected and so the figures displayed will reflect your own school’s data only.

Click on this icon to view the figures for your own school’s data as well as the collaboration data, as shown below. |
Actual and Difference Mode
By default, ‘Actual mode’ will be selected showing the percentages achieved for your school, and the collaboration data if you selected to display this.

Clicking on this icon will select 'Difference Mode', which will then display the difference between your school's data and the collaborative data. |
Using the example above, 12.5% of students with a KS2 attainment of 3c achieved a grade 5 in Maths, while in the collaborative data 2.7% of students achieved a grade 5 with the same KS2. The difference between these figures would show as +9.8, as shown below.
Colour-Coding
Colour-coding will be used to highlight whether there is a positive or negative difference between the performance of the students in your cohort, and the performance of the students included in the collaboration data. As shown in the key at the bottom of the report, red reflects a negative difference while green reflects a positive difference.
Warning Icons
Warning icons may be displayed to show information regarding the data which has been used to calculate the difference, or if this was not able to be calculated. You can find out what each icon reflects using the key at the bottom of the report.
